SUPER GT organizer GTA has confirmed the race distances for the remainder of the season, as well as the start time for June’s third round at Sepang.

The details were revealed in GTA chairman Masaaki Bandoh’s regular press conference on Sunday morning ahead of the opening round of the season at Okayama, which is hosting one of five 300km races on this year’s calendar.

As previously reported by Sportscar365, SUPER GT’s visits to Sepang, Suzuka, Sugo and Motegi will all utilize the regular 300km format, while the Fuji Golden Week race and the penultimate round of the season at Autopolis will be three-hour timed races.

Bandoh finally confirmed that the second visit of the year to Fuji will be held as a double sprint weekend, but specific details of the event, which have already been communicated to competitors, were not announced.

A spokesperson for the GTA said the format will be made public shortly after next month’s three-hour race, although further changes are possible.

Additionally, the start time for SUPER GT’s first overseas race since 2019 at Sepang has been set for 4:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, with a latest possible finish time of 7 p.m., meaning the race will conclude before sunset at 7:30 p.m.

Unusually, an additional practice session will be held on Thursday afternoon — SUPER GT hasn’t held a three-day meeting since 2008 — to allow drivers to get used to the Malaysian circuit, with regular practice and qualifying slated for Friday.

While the GTA ultimately backed away from plans to make the Sepang round a night race, as initially suggested when the race was announced, Bandoh stated that the possibility for future visits to the track remains open.

SUPER GT’s current contract with Sepang runs for three years.
