Century Motorsport will bring one of its Ginetta G55 GT3s back for the blue riband British GT Championship Silverstone 500 event this weekend, with Aleksander Schjerpen returning to the team.

The sole GT3 Ginetta will be piloted by Schjerpen and Charlie Robertson for the three-hour race.

This comes after the team’s two GT3 cars were withdrawn ahead of last month’s Snetterton round, with young American drivers Parker Chase and Harry Gottsacker pulling out of the program.

Schjerpen finished second in the GT4 Silver Cup in 2015 with Century and will partner Robertson, who drove alongside Chase at Oulton Park and Rockingham earlier in the season.

The Norwegian driver is thus far only confirmed for Silverstone but team boss Clive Freke remains committed to getting at least one of the team’s GT3 entries on the grid for the rest of the season.

“Alex was with us in 2015 and ’16 so knows the team well, plus he’s been racing a Lamborghini Super Trofeo car this season so the jump to GT3 shouldn’t be too daunting,” he said.

“It’s great that we’ll be back out at Silverstone this weekend when we’ll hopefully show what the G55 can really do. The car has potential but we’ve not been able to demonstrate that yet for various reasons.

“We provide a very competitive opportunity to race in GT3 and are speaking to a number of drivers about doing just that for the rest of the season.

“We’re certainly very hopeful of having both cars back on the grid this year.”

The GT3 grid for Silverstone currently stands at 11 entries.
