Gidley Nears SRO3 Title Clinch With Road America Race 2 Win

Memo Gidley closed in on clinching the SRO3 title in GT America powered by AWS with his ninth win of the season.

The SKI Autosports driver pedaled the No. 56 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II to a 2.634-second win over second-placed Ross Chouest, who passed the the HP-TECH Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3 of Tony Davis in the closing five minutes of Sunday’s 40-minute contest at Road America.

It means Gidley will head into the final four races of the season with an 92-point lead over Davis, with a maximum of 100 points up for grabs.

Davis led the race from pole but came under attack by Gidley in the run into Turn 5 on the opening lap, which saw a change for the lead.

The Ferrari faded slightly through the remainder of the race and came under attack by Chouest and Scott Blind, who finished fourth in the Ruckus Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo.

Mirco Schultis completed the top-five in his Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R, while Marc Muzzo took his No. 013 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari to a sixth place result.

GT2 competitor Lawrence Tomlinson, who finished an impressive third overall on Saturday, crossed the line in seventh in his Team LNT Ginetta G56 GT2 entry.

Tomlinson, however, was handed a 30-second post-race time penalty for Tomlinson for a pre-race procedure violation, dropping hime one position in the results.

A massive accident for Kyle Washington at The Kink on the final lap dropped his GMG Racing Porsche to tenth overall, promoting Dave Musial Sr. to seventh and Tony Ferraro to ninth.

Both David Lecko (Cup) and Craig Lumsden (GT4) took their respective class honors, which didn’t feature any competition this weekend.
