George Kurtz will start on pole for the first GT America powered by AWS race of the weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in a shortened session due to a heavy accident for a GT2 competitor.
The CrowdStrike by Riley driver reeled off a 1:25.852 lap time in his Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo early in the 15-minute scheduled session to outpace the No. 56 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of Memo Gidley by 1.105 seconds.
Mirco Schultis, in his return to the series in the No. 70 Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R, qualified third, with SRO3 class points leader Justin Rothberg and Racers Edge Motorsports driver Jason Bell completing the top-five.
A massive accident for the No. 62 Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 of Evan King in Turn 6 brought out the red flag with seven minutes and 45 seconds to go.
King’s Lamborghini careened into the tire barriers and nearly rolled over, although the driver climbed from the car under his own power.
The session did not restart as a result.
It left several cars not setting a lap, including the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
GT4 class pole went to Mike Johnson in the No. 007 Archangel by ProSport Competition Aston Martin Vantage GT4, while neither GT2 car set a time in the shortened session.
Race 1 is scheduled to get underway at 4:50 p.m. EST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
