Three drivers have lost their original grid positions for this afternoon’s season-opening GT America powered by AWS race at Sonoma Raceway due to taking the checkered flag twice.

Kyle Washington (GMG Racing), Mirco Schultis (Mishumotors) and Ross Chouest (Chouest Povoledo Racing) have all been given three-position grid penalties after reach driver “did not respect the checkered flag” in qualifying.

The penalties come in addition to a drive-through that Washington had to serve during the 15-minute session due speeding in the pit lane.

The penalties will drop Chouest to eighth, Schultis to 11th and Washington to last on the SRO3 class grid.

Two drivers from McLaren Trophy America qualifying, Patrick Liddy and Scott Sorbaro, have faced similar penalties for their first race of the weekend for the same infraction.

Race 1 for GT America is set for a 5:20 p.m. PST (8:20 p.m. EST) start with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
