Capestro-Dubets, Filgueiras Claim Sebring Race 2 Win

RS1 swept the weekend’s SRO America proceedings at Sebring International Raceway, with John Capestro-Dubets and Eric Filgueiras taking top honors in the second Pirelli GT4 America race of the weekend.

Capestro-Dubets took his No. 28 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport to a 3.124-second victory over the No. 51 AutoTechnic Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Colin Garrett.

It marked a sweep of the weekend for the RS1 duo, who inherited the overall win in Race 1 due to a technical infraction for the No. 23 TechSport Nissan Z NISMO GT4 on Saturday.

Additionally, the Florida-based team also took top honors in both of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS races at Sebring.

Capestro-Dubets assumed the lead following the race’s only restart with 21 minutes to go, jumping from third to first, having gotten around both the No. 999 Hanley Motorsports Toyota GR Supra GT4 of Daniel Hanley as well as Tony Gaples’ Pro-Am class-leading No. 9 Blackdog Racing Nissan.

Gaples went on to claim class victory, the first for the Nissan in international competition, with a fifth place overall result alongside co-driver Max Root, who started on overall pole and led the opening stanza in the 60-minute contest.

Root was filling in for team regular Michael Cooper, who was on Porsche Carrera Cup North America duty in Miami this weekend.

The No. 23 TechSport Nissan of Jonathan Neudorf and Michai Stephens and fellow Silver class entrant, the Kenton Koch and Kevin Bohem-driven No. 97 Random Vandals Racing BMW, finished third and fourth overall.

Neudorf pressured Garrett for second in the closing laps and were only separated by two-tenths at the line.

Am class honors, meanwhile, went to the No. 98 Random Vandals BMW of Paul Sparta and Kris Wilson, who finished 11th overall.
