Lap times tumbled in Tuesday’s second official test session for the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa as KCMG driver Edoardo Liberati set the fastest lap of the opening day.
Liberati turned in a time of 2:22.155 to take just over eight seconds off the morning benchmark set by Iron Lynx Ferrari driver Alessandro Pier Guidi in wet conditions.
The No. 18 Porsche 911 GT3 R that Liberati shares with Alexandre Imperatori and Josh Burdon ended up half a second clear of the No. 71 Iron Lynx Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 which ranked second in the afternoon times after a 2:22.717 from Davide Rigon.
Conditions improved after lunch for the five hours of testing that got underway at 1 p.m.
Sainteloc Racing’s No. 25 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo was third-quickest, from the Porsches of GPX Racing and Dinamic Motorsport which are currently first and second in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup drivers’ standings.
KCMG had a strong day as its No. 47 Porsche finished sixth in the afternoon, backing up a double top-six result in the morning session for the Hong Kong-based team.
The top Silver Cup car was the GRT Grasser Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo in tenth, one place behind the Pro-Am pace-setting Inception Racing McLaren 720S GT3.
The new BMW M4 GT3, which is not taking part in the 24 Hours of Spa, banked 59 laps and finished 35th in the 59-car order as part of its pre-homologation test program.
Car Collection Motorsport’s Silver Cup-class Audi did not turn any laps after an accident in the morning session. There were two red flags in the afternoon for separate incidents affecting the Team Parker Racing Porsche and the No. 27 Sainteloc Racing Audi.
Testing resumes at 9 a.m. CEST (3 a.m. EST) on Wednesday morning.
