Jules Gounon put SunEnergy1 by SPS atop the overall time sheets for the third time of the weekend, with the No. 75 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo quickest in Pre Qualifying for Saturday’s Kyalami 9 Hour.

Gounon set a 1:42.604 lap time early in the 1 hour and 45-minute session to put the Pro-Am class entry quickest, nearly two-tenths quicker than the No. 999 GruppeM Racing Mercedes, which ended up second.

The pair of Tressor Attempto Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo IIs were third and fourth quickest, followed by the Pro-Am class No. 20 SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes, which completed the top-five overall.

Both Team WRT BMW M4 GT3s were sixth and seventh quickest, with the No. 4 Grove Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R eighth.

The No. 3 NGK Pablo Clark Racing Mercedes of Mikaeel Pitamber was quickest of the South African entries in ninth overall, in one of three cars registered for the one-hour Kyalami Supercup race.

The session featured a single red flag due to an accident by Clint Weston in the No. 86 Stradale Motorsport Mercedes, which made contact with the tire barriers in Turn 6.

Qualifying, which will be split between three 15-minute sessions for each driver, is set to get underway at 3 p.m. local time.
