Paul Holton topped the time charts in the one-and-only practice session prior to this evening’s Miami Makeup Race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for McLaren Trophy America competitors.
Holton, in the Pro class title-contending No. 8 Forte Racing McLaren Artura Trophy EVO, reeled off a chart-topping 1:26.450 in the hour-long session to edge out the sister No. 24 entry of Patrick Liddy by 0.131 seconds.
Liddy’s co-driver, Tanner Harvey, found the Turn 4 gravel trap early in the running to bring out the red flag, had a loss of the car’s two quickest laps, and was thus demoted to fifth in the classification.
The duo enter this week’s triple-header at The Brickyard leading the Pro drivers’ championship.
Bryson Morris made a late-session improvement to place the No. 98 Bryan Herta Autosport McLaren to end up second overall and in Pro, ahead of Michael O’Brien, who was quickest in Pro-Am in the No. 7 GMG Racing McLaren.
The Am class pace-setting No. 100 Forte machine of Cooper Broll, who could clinch the class title later today, was fourth quickest in the final classification.
Teams will now prepare for the Miami Makeup race, which will be gridded based on qualifying results from that particular weekend, and only be eligible to those competitors that were present at the Miami Gardens venue in May.
