Flying Lizard Wins Race 1 at Indy; RS1 Duo Clinch Silver Title

A move from third to the lead on the final restart by Andy Lee has delivered the first Pirelli GT4 America victory of the season for Flying Lizard Motorsports, while Stevan McAleer and Eric Filgueiras clinched the Silver class title with a second place overall finish Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Lee took his No. 8 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 to a 1.679-second win over Filgueiras in the No. 18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, which led the majority of the 60-minute contest.

Having started from pole, McAleer managed to stay ahead of the No. 34 Conquest Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Michai Stevens through the race’s first full-course caution for the No. 10 Fast Track BMW M4 GT4 of Tim Horrell, which ended up in the barriers.

While the majority of Pro-Am and Am class competitors dashed into the pits one lap after the restart, the Silver leaders stayed out for one additional lap.

Quick pit work by Conquest briefly put Sanders out front until Filgueiras got around the Canadian on the out lap with 28 minutes to go.

A second yellow for the No. 72 Krugspeed Toyota GR Supra GT4 of Jaden Lander, who drove off-course, set up an eight-minute shootout to the finish, which saw the overall lead change hands as well as a number of positions further down the running order.

It marked the first series victory for Lee’s co-driver Sabo, who drove the opening stint in the Pro-Am class Flying Lizard Aston.

Elliott Skeer and Adam Adelson finished third overall and second in Pro-Am for Premier Racing, followed by Ian James and Gray Newell, who enjoyed a strong opening stint in his No. 24 The Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

Pro-Am class points leaders Jason Hart and Scott Noble came home fifth in their No. 47 Nolasport Porsche, ahead of Sanders and Stevens, which faded to sixth after running second overall on the final restart.

Terry Borcheller took top honors in the Am class, thanks to a final lap pass on Paulo Carcasci to put the Carrus Callas Raceteam into victory lane at the Brickyard. Borcheller shared the class win with co-driver Nick Shanny.
