Nineteen cars set for Pirelli World Challenge round at Long Beach…

A total of 19 cars are set for this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge round at Long Beach, including six GTS invitational entries.

The third round of the PWC season will feature a single 50-minute Sprint race on Sunday, in support of the Verizon IndyCar Series.

Among the seven GT entries include championship leader Scott Hargrove in the No. 96 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, R. Ferri Motorsport’s Toni Vilander, who swept the SprintX season-opening weekend at Circuit of The Americas last month, as well as former series champion Alvaro Parente, of K-PAX Racing.

Daniel Mancinelli, who withdrew from the St. Petersburg weekend in protest of his Ferrari 488 GT3’s Balance of Performance, is listed for this weekend, as is Alec Udell, who made his first start of the season at COTA in the No. 41 GMG Racing Porsche.

As revealed by Sportscar365 last week, Callaway Competition USA is set for a hiatus from at least the next three PWC rounds, due to an alleged shortage of engine blocks. 

The six-strong GTA class sees a pair of Black Swan Racing Porsches, for Tim Pappas and LA-based Australian David Calvert-Jones, who will bring his 2017 Bathurst 12 Hour class-winning Porsche to the streets of Long Beach.

There are three entries apiece for GTS and GTSA, with former IndyCar driver and motorcycle racing legend Jeff Ward in a Black Swan-entered Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR.

Spencer Pumpelly is also set to battle for GTS honors in a TRG Porsche, alongside two SIN R1 GT4s from Racers Edge Motorsports for Harry Gottsacker and Bob Michaelian, a Compass Racing McLaren 570S GT4 for Paul Holton and a GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 for George Kurtz.

GTS cars will not score point in the race, having been added to the event in an effort to boost the overall grid.
