A total of 50 entries across four classes are set to do battle in this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge round at Barber Motorsports Park, in the second of three back-to-back events for the sprint race championship.
ENTRY LIST: Barber Motorsports Park
Despite losing his win last weekend at Long Beach due to on overboost infringement, Cadillac Racing’s Johnny O’Connell heads into sixth and seventh GT rounds of the season as the championship leader.
O’Connell sits 41 points ahead of EFFORT Racing’s Michael Lewis, with Michael Cooper of Cadillac slipping further back to third following a rough outing on the streets of Long Beach.
There are no major changes to the GT class entry for Barber, other than the absence of James Sofronas’ GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, which had returned for a one-off race at Long Beach.
Jon Fogarty is still listed to compete in his GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing McLaren 650S GT3, with the team working around the clock to rebuild the mid-engined sports car following its weekend-ending accident in Long Beach.
The GTA class sees a seven-car entry, with Walt Bowlin (M1 GT Racing), Michael Schein (Wright Motorsports), Joseph Toussaint (Autometrics) and Drew Regitz (Stephen Cameron Racing) all making their return after skipping the two street races.
Martin Fuentes, meanwhile, will be looking to continue his undefeated streak in the class, after another dominant weekend at Scuderia Corsa’s home race in Southern California.
GT Cup returns for Barber and sees a four-car field, led by Sloan Urry and Alex Udell, who have been the two frontrunners in the four races this season.
A total of 23 cars are set to do battle in the separate GTS races, marking a season-high entry for the GT4-based championship.
Track action gets underway on Thursday, with official practice beginning on Friday. The GT/GTA/GT Cup classes have 50-minute races on both Saturday and Sunday, in support of the Verizon IndyCar Series.
