The first McLaren 570S GT4 car has been confirmed for Pirelli World Challenge, with Klenin Performance Racing having announced plans on Monday to switch to the mid-engined sports car for the 2017 GTS/GT4 season.
The team, which currently campaigns a Maserati GranTurismo MC, plans to take delivery of the new McLaren in January, ahead of an extensive test program prior to the season-opener at St. Petersburg in March.
“This opportunity is beyond exciting for me and my team,” team owner/driver Mark Klenin said. “To be a part of the McLaren family and drive one of these fantastic machines is a dream come true.”
Klenin will continue to utilize Jackson Stewart and Unitech Racing to operate its PWC effort.
It is the first PWC team to confirm a McLaren GT4 program, with K-PAX Racing expected to field at least one 570S in the class next year as well.
Launched earlier this year, the 570S GT4 has already claimed a pair of victories in British GT competition with the Ecurie Ecosse squad, prior to a planned full worldwide rollout to customers in 2017.
