Peter Kox has given the Acura NSX GT3 its first pole in Pirelli World Challenge competition, after storming to the top spot for this afternoon’s SprintX race at Utah Motorsports Campus.

The Dutchman reeled off a 1:47.993 in his No. 93 RealTime Racing Acura to edge out Friday’s pace-setting No. 31 TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 of Daniel Mancinelli by 0.039 seconds.

Kox, who was the only driver to break the 1:47 barrier so far this weekend, also claimed his first career PWC pole, and will share driving duties in the race with Mark Wilkins.

“It’s what we’ve said all along: everyone at RealTime, Honda/HPD and JAS have been working away at it,” Kox said. “The car is getting better and better and now it’s starting to show.

“Gradually we’ve crept toward the front. The competition has been around a lot longer than us. To have the first pole for the Acura NSX GT3 in World Challenge feels really good.”

Patrick Long qualified the No. 58 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R in third, followed by Ryan Eversley, made it two Acuras in the top-four.

The No. 3 Cadillac ATS-V.R of Ricky Taylor will start fifth , ahead of Ryan Dalziel, who topped the time charts early in the 15-minute session.

Frankie Montecalvo, meanwhile, claimed GT Pro-Am class pole, taking his No. 75 Always Evolving/AIM Autosport Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 to 10th overall.

GT Am-Am class qualifying honors went to the No. 013 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.

The No. 55 Dream Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo of Yuki Harata claimed GT Cup pole, while the No. 47 NOLAsport Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR of Matt Travis was quickest of the GTS competitors.

SprintX Race 1 gets underway at 1:40 p.m. MT time with live coverage on Motor Trend OnDemand.
