Lamborghini will provide the series with its official safety vehicle for the upcoming SRO America season. Safety car duties across all series will be handled by SRO crew in a specially-prepared Lamborghini Urus super sport utility vehicle.

The Italian brand is enjoying a renaissance in the SRO America paddock with no fewer than seven entries currently registered for the season opener at Sonoma on March 5-7 in both the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS and GT America powered by AWS series.

“We are delighted to be back in the SRO paddock in North America with such a strong representation of customer teams in both GTWCA and GT America,” said Chris Ward, senior American motorsports manager for Lamborghini Squadra Corse. “To have the Urus SSUV Safety Car representing the marque at the head of the field as we take the green flag in Sonoma will be a very appropriate way to signal our return.”

As a super sport utility vehicle, the Lamborghini Urus is more than capable of holding its own among the high-tech race machinery on the track.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, the full-time all-wheel-drive equipped vehicle is capable of a 3.1-second 60-mph rating, possibly terminating in an 11.3-second jaunt down one-fourth of a straight mile.

Flat out, the Urus is said to be able to reach a top speed of 190mph. In turns, the air springs and adjustable ride height help to ensure the Urus spends all of its time on-track, not off.

“We are excited to welcome Lamborghini back to the paddock and into the role of Official Safety Car,” said Greg Gill, president and CEO of SRO America.

“The long-standing racing heritage and prestige that precede the Lamborghini marque are complementary to our own racing history and mission to provide top-tier GT racing and competition.”
