Scott Hargrove makes the switch the Pirelli World Challenge this season in a Porsche 911 GT3 R fielded by Pfaff Motorsports.

This week in the Pirelli Paddock Pass, the Canadian looks ahead to the season to come as he prepares to take the next step in his racing career this weekend in St. Petersburg.

What made Pirelli World Challenge an attractive destination for you this season?

“PWC is attractive for a few reasons. My background is fully sprint racing, having race in the Road to Indy and Porsche GT3 Cup prior to this year.

“As a driver committed to making it to the highest levels of racing, I’m missing the endurance experience. PWC is an interesting middle ground where I’ll get to showcase my sprint racing capabilities in addition to learning the intricacies of driver changes and working closely with another driver on setup.

“And of course, who wouldn’t want to watch race versions of some of the most iconic street cars battling it out on track?”

After a championship in single-make Porsche racing last season, how prepared do you feel for this next step in your career?

“I feel more ready than ever. I’ve actually felt ready for a few years, having also won the Canadian Porsche GT3 Cup Championship in 2014, but the hardest thing was branching out from Canada with support.

“Step in Pfaff Motorsports, they have been huge for my career and we’re just getting started!”

What does it mean to you to make this jump with a Canadian team behind you?

“It’s absolutely huge. We believe in each other’s abilities. I have no doubts we can compete against the best of the best in PWC, hopefully turning a few heads along the way!

“When I joined the team in 2017 to do a year of Porsche GT3 Cup we already had the mindset of making a step for 2018. It was a ‘get to know each other’ year and they blew me away with their professionalism and determination to win.

“We also have several great Canadian partners joining us on this adventure, with long-time Pfaff supporters Castrol Canada on the car alongside new support from Carbon Marine.”

What are your impressions of the 911 GT3 R?

“The 911 GT3 R is everything you’d come to expect from Porsche and more. The car looks amazing and the build quality is out of this world.

“On track the car feels fantastic, very predictable and responsive to changes. It’s an honor getting to compete for such an iconic brand.”

Do you have a standout memory of watching PWC races in the past?

“The final few laps from St. Pete last year were awesome to watch, I’m hoping that’s an indication of what’s to come this year.

“But what really stands out the most are the names of guys who have won the championship in years past. They are some of the best in the industry and it would be an honor to have my name added to that list one day.”
