Alec Udell will return to the Pirelli World Challenge for a second season in the GT Cup class, still with GMG Racing in the team’s No. 17 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

The World Challenge veteran, still only 20, who’d been in GTS for several years before moving into GT Cup last year, had a mixed bag of a 2015 campaign.

Udell won three races and finished on the podium in 13 of 14 starts; however, a heavy crash in the first race at St. Petersburg cost him a chance to compete in the remainder of both races there, and he also missed the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park round due to a school conflict.

It meant although he was either the second or third-best driver in class most of the year, he only ended fourth in points.

“This is my sixth year in World Challenge, which has proven itself to be one of the most competitive series around,” Udell said.

“I really got to know this Porsche last year, and I think we should have a really solid package from the very first race. COTA (Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas) is my home race, so I know we’ll have a lot of support right from the start.”

He’ll continue with support from Euroworld Motorsports. He continues in a GT Cup class that will have fellow returnee Preston Calvert and Touring Car class champion Corey Fergus, among others.

The James Sofronas-led GMG Racing team has announced plans to campaign a Porsche 911 GT3 R in GT class, but was not at the series’ recent test at Circuit of The Americas.
