Zakspeed is the latest team to confirm its entry for the Baku World Challenge, the season finale of the Blancpain Sprint Series that will feature a maximum capacity grid of 30 cars.
The German team will field a Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 for the Swede Andreas Simonsen and Israeli Alon Day. Both drivers competed in the streets of the Azerbaijani capital last year behind the wheel of a HTP-run Mercedes.
The Peter Zakowski-led squad was founded in 1968 by his father Erich and carries a rich motorsport history. After a difficult last few seasons, the team competed in the ADAC GT Masters this year.
Zakspeed joins Prosperia C. Abt Racing (Audi), Callaway Competition (Corvette), RWT (Corvette) and Schütz Motorsport (Porsche) on the list of German ADAC GT Masters teams that will make the trip to Azerbaijan.
Trackspeed (Porsche), Beechdean AMR (Aston Martin), Triple Eight (BMW) and Boutsen Ginion (McLaren) are the others teams joining the season regulars in the hunt for the €175,000 prize fund.
As confirmed by Sportscar365 last weekend, the No. 3 Reiter Engineering run G-Drive Racing Lamborghini Gallardo of Tomas Enge and Roman Rusinov will miss the final round of the season due to Rusinov’s FIA WEC commitments.
