Caldarelli Secures Spa Pole for K-PAX, Lamborghini

Andrea Caldarelli put K-PAX Racing on pole position for the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa, besting Raffaele Marciello in the Super Pole shootout.

Caldarelli reeled off a best lap of 2:16.221 behind the wheel of the No.6 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo to go quickest of all.

Marciello’s No. 88 AMG Team Akkodis ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo was 0.154 seconds down in second place.

It marked Lamborghini’s first 24 Hours of Spa pole and the maiden pole for an American team in the event’s 74-year history.

Initially, Caldarelli’s opening lap lacked behind the Mercedes’ fastest time of 2:16.375 but the Italian improved on lap two to top the session.

Klaus Bachler took third in the No. 54 Dynamic Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R, ahead of Luca Stolz’ No.2 AMG Team GetSpeed Mercedes.

Mirko Bortolotti rounded out the top five for Emil Frey Racing, ahead of Kevin Estre.

Estre’s No. 221 GPX Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R was quickest early on before ultimately dropping to sixth, leading the Audi pair of Mattia Drudi and Ricardo Feller.

Fabian Schiller, the first car out on track during the session, ended up in ninth place as the best-placed Silver Cup entry aboard the No. 777 Al Manar Racing by HRT Mercedes, with Maro Engel rounding out the top ten for AMG Team GruppeM.

Iron Lynx, which took a one-two in Thursday’s initial qualifying session and led multiple practice sessions, qualified outside of the top 10.

Antonio Fuoco, who set the quickest time in Q3 on Thursday evening, was 11th in the No. 71 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020, 0.671 seconds off pole position.

Teammate Nicklas Nielsen was 13th, separated by the No. 19 Emil Frey Racing Lamborghini of Giacomo Altoe.

Sven Mueller was 14th for Toksport WRT, with Dries Vanthoor completing the top 15 aboard the No. 32 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II.

With the grid set, the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa will kick off at 4:45 p.m. CEST (1o:45 a.m ET) on Saturday.
