Pro-class Lamborghini squad Emil Frey Racing has recruited last year’s Michelin Le Mans Cup runner-up Mikkel Mac to replace Franck Perera at the Paul Ricard 1000km.

Lamborghini factory driver Perera is unable to take part in Sunday’s GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup season finale because the Frenchman is committed to racing in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on the same weekend.

The Emil Frey squad, which runs two Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evos in the Endurance Cup Pro ranks, has brought in Danish racer Mac to partner Albert Costa and Giacomo Altoe.

Mac has spent 2020 competing in Denmark’s national GT championship, while last year he drove for Ferrari customer squad Luzich Racing in the Le Mans Cup GT3 category.

The 27-year-old has also previously driven in the European Le Mans Series and International GT Open but has never appeared on the GTWC Europe grid before.

This weekend is also set to mark his first competitive outing in a Lamborghini.

Mac, Costa and Altoe will share the No. 163 Huracan while the full-season trio of Ricardo Feller, Norbert Siedler and Mikael Grenier are in the No. 14 for the six-hour Ricard race.

“We’ve been continuously improving from race to race and are now ready to give our very best one last time at the last race,” said team principal Lorenz Frey-Hilti.

“We were able to analyze the results from the official test days [at Paul Ricard] in March and are taking new learnings to the upcoming race.

“I have fond memories of Paul Ricard, as we were able to bag a victory with Lexus there in 2018. We hope to finish the season successfully and to gain precious points for the overall GTWC Europe ranking.”

Emil Frey is currently fourth in the outright teams’ championship that combines results from Endurance Cup and Sprint Cup.

The Swiss team is out of the title race on 97.5 points with table leader Team WRT sitting 52 points ahead, but it can catch Sainteloc Racing for third.

The overall championship will be contested between Audi squad WRT and Mercedes-AMG entrant AKKA-ASP with the two teams separated by four points.
