Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup points leaders Christopher Mies and Alex Riberas have inherited the win in Saturday’s Race 1 at the Nürburgring after Grasser Racing Team was given a post-race penalty.

GRT drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart won on track in the 60-minute race on Saturday afternoon but have been given a 30-second post-race time penalty.

It was found that Engelhart was wearing a FHR over the shoulder straps of his harness, in contravention of Article 120 of the Blancpain GT sporting regulations, which states that HANS devices must be under the shoulder straps.

It was the drivers’ and Austrian team’s third win of the season but they have now been demoted to 13th position.

Belgian Audi Club Team WRT’s Riberas and Mies initially finished second on track after trailing the Lamborghini for the entire race.

They see their championship lead extended to nine points over Raffaele Marciello and Michael Meadows who were moved up to fourth.

Sunday’s championship-deciding Race 2 will get underway at 4 p.m. local time.

RESULTS: Race 1 (Amended)
