Former DTM champion Gary Paffett is set for his GT racing debut as part of Mercedes-AMG’s reinforced factory supported entries for this month’s Total 24 Hours of Spa.
The Mercedes-AMG factory driver was confirmed Tuesday in the HTP Motorsport-entered No. 86 entry alongside Maximilian Gotz and Thomas Jaeger, in the final lineup to be confirmed by the German manufacturer.
It will mark the 35-year-old Englishman’s first 24-hour race, in the blue riband event for the Blancpain GT Series.
“I am looking forward to my debut in GT racing, and in such a classic race, no less,” Paffet.
“The Spa 24-hour race is one of the undisputed highlights in GT racing and a fantastic challenge for every racing driver.
“I have already been able to test the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and I felt at easy straight away. Now, I am eager to find out what it will be like in the race.”
Maro Engel, meanwhile, has been confirmed in the No. 00 AMG-Team Black Falcon entry alongside Bernd Schneider and Yelmer Buurman.
It will carry a special Linkin Park livery, designed by the world-renowned rock band.
A total of eight Mercedes-AMG GT3s are set for the Belgian endurance classic, entered by HTP, Black Falcon and AKKA ASP, with four receiving additional factory support.
