Sportscar365 is asking drivers from around the world what they’re doing during the COVID-19 pandemic and how they’re coping with the racing downtime.

Next up is WRT driver Charles Weerts (Twitter/Instagram). The young Belgian, who completed a successful debut season in GT3 machinery last year, is balancing a racing career with his studies.

Where are you sitting out the COVID-19 crisis?

I’m staying at home, in Belgium. Obviously, there are not a lot of places I can actually go but I’m trying to spend some time outside and to take in some fresh air but still avoiding contact with people.

What kind of TV, music or books are you passing the time with in lockdown?

I’m currently watching the last season of ‘La Casa de Papel’, which is a very good TV show and I can recommend it to everyone.

In terms of music – I’m listening to some random music, but recently there was an announcement of a new album from DaBaby. I’m also studying and reading some books for my exams.

What are you studying?

It is for university. Since September 2019, I’ve been studying in a business and economics school in Liege.

I will have my exams, which should start around mid May, but they are also affected by the coronavirus. I will have every single exam from home, so I’ll do them on my computer.

I’ll study like I would do normally, if I were going to do my exams at university. I need to study economics, maths, accounting, English, Dutch and law.

What are you doing to maintain your fitness level?

I’m running quite a lot and trying to do at least between 15 and 18 km per week, which is not a lot, but enough to stay in fit. Also doing a lot of push-ups.

Is there a track/race still on your bucket list that you would like to race one day?

The Total 24 Hours of Spa was always on my list and now I would love to do Le Mans.

What other form of motorsports would you like to try your hand in?

Yes, it’s DTM. I really love the cars. It looks really nice and it’s very quick with a lot of downforce and a great sound.

There are a lot of people coming to see the races and great competition.

Do you follow any other sports? If so, favorite teams?

Not really. I only support the Belgian team when it’s a World Championship or European Championship. And for the rest – I just watch some random sports, like tennis, etc.

What’s your favourite holiday destination?

I really like the South of France, because it’s not too far away from my place, only 2-2.5 hours.

There is a very beautiful landscape, a nice weather and obviously the sea, which is very nice.

What’s the one thing you are most looking forward to the first day you return to a racetrack?

I look forward to seeing all my team again. It’s been quite a long time since I saw them, and I like every single person in the team.

And of course I look forward to get back in the car and push it as much as I can.
