Adaptability, Consistency Name of Game at Road America

Road America’s debut as an IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup round with the six-hour Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix presented a different challenge than the circuit’s traditional sprint race.

Track temperatures climbed throughout the afternoon, while nine full-course cautions repeatedly reset strategies.

Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque kept the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R in contention throughout the six-hour race before Albuquerque took control in the closing stages. He then managed two late restarts to secure the victory.

Taylor credited Michelin’s hard-compound Pilot Sport Endurance tire for providing consistency across the changing conditions.

“We saw many different conditions, and the hard Michelin tire was suited to it all,” he said. “Whether it was 70 degrees or 80 degrees.”

While Sunday’s race featured more cautions than extended green-flag running, the event still demanded adaptability.

Strategy shifted throughout the afternoon, manufacturers traded the advantage, and the final hour remained undecided until the closing laps.

For Wayne Taylor Racing, the victory was also a reward for a cleanly executed afternoon.

The No. 10 avoided the penalties and incidents that affected several of its rivals, while the crew kept the car near the front as the complexion of the race continued to change.

By the checkered flag, the winning Cadillac had traveled 611.28 miles over 151 laps, surpassing the 500-mile benchmark that shaped Road America’s endurance racing legacy for decades.

The result marked the team’s first GTP victory since Detroit in 2024 and its first since returning to Cadillac competition. It was also Wayne Taylor Racing’s second win at Road America, following its 2022 victory in the DPi era.

IMSA now turns to the Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway, where the GTD Pro and GTD classes will take center stage from August 21–23.
