Michelin wet tires helped guide the No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 of Team RLL to victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Battle on the Bricks. It was Philipp Eng and Jesse Krohn’s first-ever GTP win with teammates Connor De Phillippi and Nick Yelloly finishing second.
“It was a very hectic race with all the rain we had,” said Eng. “The rain tire, it’s a very, very cool tire because you can drive very long until the dry. So the tire is very forgiving in those conditions.”
The six-hour race saw multiple cautions and steady rain after the initial start. This caused nearly one hour of yellow flag conditions. After the rain cleared, teams switched back to Michelin slicks to complete the race.
“We always had the right tires on the car, which is the most important thing,” said Eng. “Just super happy for everyone and BMW that we are standing here right now.”
Eng and Krohn currently sit seventh in the championship standings with 2,235 points.
Porsche Penske Motorsport have the top two spots in the standings. The No. 7 Porsche 963 with Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr lead the No. 6 with Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet by just 14 points.
