The FIA announced today that an end-of-season GT World Cup will be held in Macau on Nov. 19-22.

An idea to create an FIA GT World Cup had been proposed as early as 2013, but the FIA World Motor Sport Council agreed on the creation in today’s meeting in Geneva.

Back in 2013, following the decision by SRO not to renew its contract with the FIA, the idea was pitched to create a single event, in which top teams and drivers of various FIA sanctioned series would take part.

At the WMSC meeting in Doha last December the plans reappeared and the FIA announced it was looking for interested parties to organize and promote the cup.

The race will be open to GT3-homologated cars and will be part of the 62nd Macau Grand Prix weekend. Further details are expected to be announced at a later date.

In recent years Macau hosted the Macau GT Cup, with high-profile drivers and manufacturers joining the event last November, which served as a round of the GT Asia series.
