Rebellion Racing will make the switch to Dunlop tires for its 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign, marking a return to the LMP1 class for the tire manufacturer.

The Anglo-Swiss squad, which won last year’s LMP1 Privateers’ Trophy, will utilize Dunlops on its pair of Rebellion R-One AERs.

The team took part in a multi-day Dunlop tire test in Bahrain, following the WEC finale in November, where it tested multiple tire developments.

“We saw in recent seasons that Dunlop have provided very competitive tires to the LMP2 cars and we hope that this partnership will further improve the competitiveness of the Rebellion R-One LMP1 cars,” said team manager Bart Hayden.

It will mark Dunlop’s return to top-level prototype racing for the first time 2012 when it supplied tires for OAK Racing. Dunlop won the American Le Mans Series LMP1 Championship with Dyson Racing in 2011.

“Rebellion Racing has established itself as one of the most respected and professional teams in the FIA WEC paddock,”  said Xavier Fraipont, Managing Director, Dunlop Motorsport EMEA

“We are delighted that they have chosen Dunlop as a technical partner. We are proud that they selected our iconic brand after an intensive comparative tyre test and we will be providing focused technical support to help us drive forward together during the season.”

Rebellion will be joined on the LMP1 Privateer grid by ByKolles Racing, which will roll out an all-new version of its CLM P1/01 AER prototype for 2016.
