Kay van Berlo claimed a sweep of the Long Beach weekend with a win in the second Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands.
The Dutchman took his No. 3 Kelly-Moss Road and Race Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to a 0.249-second win in Sunday’s race, which was marred by a lengthy caution that erased half of the green flag running time.
Having started again on pole, Van Berlo was challenged by teammate Riley Dickinson at the start until Dickinson stuffed his No. 53 Porsche into the Turn 1 barriers.
Moments later, a three-car accident in Turn 9 brought out a full course caution that lasted for 20 minutes.
Dimitri Dimakos (No. 11 311 RS Motorsport) and Varun Choksey (No. 13 Wright Motorsports) were handed incident responsibility by IMSA for the accident that also involved the No. 7 Kelly-Moss Porsche of Michael McCarthy.
A second yellow came out with eight minutes remaining for Michael McCann’s No. 8 Porsche in the wall in Turn 8, which set up a one-lap shootout to the finish.
The No. 6 MDK Motorsports Porsche of Trenton Estep came home second, rebounding from multiple incidents in Race 1.
Estep got around the No. 58 Topp Racing Porsche of TJ Fischer for the position just moments before the second yellow, with Fischer holding off a strong challenge from JDX Racing’s Parker Thompson for the final podium position.
Leh Keen for 311RS Motorsport completed the top-five overall and in the Pro class, meanwhile.
Pro-Am class honors went to the No. 47 Nolasport Porsche of Justin Oakes, who finished ninth overall, while John Goetz lost out on a sweep of the event in the Am class after locking up the brakes of his Wright Motorsports Porsche on the final lap.
It handed top class honors to the MDK entry of Mark Kvamme, who claimed his third Am victory of the season.
