It was the first of three stoppages during the session, with a second red flag triggered by a damper failure for the No. 31 Team WRT Oreca of Ferdinand Habsburg at Sunset Bend.

Phil Hanson led proceedings in LMP2 for the second session in a row. The Briton clocked a best lap of 1:51.492 aboard the No. 22 United Autosports Oreca to lead Prema’s Daniil Kvyat by over half a second.
