WEC Confirms Two Cars Per LMGT3 Manufacturer

The FIA World Endurance Championship’s LMGT3 category will be limited to two cars per GT3 brand, with priority given to manufacturers that are also represented in the Hypercar class.

Confirmed by ACO President Pierre Fillon following Friday’s Le Mans press conference, the Pro-Am-enforced category, which will replace GTE-Am beginning next year, will have between 12-16 cars, equating to 6 to 8 LMGT3 manufacturers.

“Of course we will not refuse the manufacturers involved in Hypercar,” Fillon said. “But we want diversity and we’ll also have other manufacturers.”

The class is expected to feature representation from the likes of BMW, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche that all either have entries in the top class, or within the same family of manufacturers.

Additional brands, such as Aston Martin, Ford and Mercedes-AMG, would be subject to securing slots from the WEC Selection Committee.

Fillon said that additional entries for the 24 Hours of Le Mans would be open to brands represented in either the WEC or the other ACO-run European and Asian Le Mans Series.

“It is open for all the teams involved in WEC,” Fillon said. “Instead of that you can’t do the BoP. But you’ll have cars from ELMS and [auto invites] from Asian, one from SRO and IMSA.

“It will be impossible for a manufacturer to come just to Le Mans. They have to be involved in one of our championships.”
