PJ Hyett captured pole position for the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in a disrupted qualifying session that featured two red flags.

The No. 99 AO Racing Oreca 07 Gibson, which Hyett shares with Louis Deletraz, clocked a 1:09.582 lap time to outpace Daniel Goldburg’s No. 22 United Autosports machine by 0.090 seconds.

Hyett and Goldburg both set their fastest times shortly before Luis Perez Companc crashed the No. 88 AF Corse Oreca at Turn 3, which caused a red flag for the second time.

The initial stoppage came when Dennis Andersen found the barriers aboard the No. 20 MDK by High Class Racing entry.

The timing of the second red flag meant no drivers were able to improve upon their times when the session was resumed with just a minute left on the clock, which was done to get to the minimum required ten minutes of green flag running.

As a result, Hyett secured his third consecutive LMP2 pole in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, adding to previous qualifying successes at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Cadillac and the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.

Gar Robinson and Nick Boulle formed the second row for Riley and Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports respectively while Steven Thomas completed the top five in the No. 11 TDS Racing Oreca.

George Kurtz took sixth ahead of Ben Keating, John Farano and Lance Willsey while Stuart Wiltshire completed the overall top-ten in his first WeatherTech Championship qualifying appearance for Era Motorsport.

Sims, Montecalvo Split GT Poles

Alexander Sims took his first WeatherTech Championship career pole by topping qualifying in GTD Pro, while Frankie Montecalvo put Vasser Sullivan on pole in GTD.

Sims reeled off a series of quick laps aboard the No. 3 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R before ending up with a 1:14.373.

In the process, the British driver pulled a gap of 0.267 seconds to compatriot Jack Hawksworth aboard the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3.

Hawksworth’s teammate Montecalvo took GTD pole in third overall, one spot ahead of the No. 4 Chevrolet driven by Tommy Milner.

Harry Tincknell slotted into fifth in the No. 64 Ford Mustang GT3, ahead of the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 driven by Madison Snow.

Mario Farnbacher briefly held the top spot before fading to seventh in the No. 23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo, with Marvin Kirchhoefer, Spencer Pumpelly and Sebastian Priaulx completing the top ten.

The Chevrolet Grand Prix kicks off Sunday at 11:05 a.m. EDT.
