This weekend’s fifth round of the SUPER GT season at Suzuka Circuit has been postponed due to the effects of Typhoon Shanshan, and will instead be held as the final round of the campaign in December.
Suzuka made the announcement on Wednesday in consideration of the “safety of spectators and those working at the track” with Typhoon Shanshan, known as Typhoon No. 10 in Japan, looking set to hit the Kansai region where the circuit is located.
Instead, the race will be moved to Dec. 7-8, making it the final round of the season and effectively replacing Mobility Resort Motegi as the venue for the finale.
All tickets that were purchased for this weekend’s race will be refunded.
The rescheduled Suzuka race will be the first SUPER GT race to be held in December since the non-championship All-Star round at California Speedway in 2004, and the first ever points-paying race.
It will also mark the first time that Suzuka has held the final round of the season since 2005.
The postponement of this weekend’s Suzuka round means the season is now due to resume at Sportsland Sugo on Sept. 21-22.
