Porsche has revealed the second-generation Type-992 911 GT3 Cup car, which will make its world debut this summer ahead of use in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and selected Carrera Cup series around the world, including Carrera Cup North America, in 2026.
Based on the current Type-992.2 generation of the 911 road car, the new race car, currently only seen in a camouflaged livery, has already “largely competed” its development phase according to a statement from the German manufacturer.
Work on the new car began at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach in 2024, with a focus on improving the aerodynamics on the front-end, as well as enhancements to the electronics, brakes, transmission and six-cylinder boxer engine from the first-generation Type-992 Cup race car, which debuted in 2021.
“We are already operating at a very high-performance level with the current GT3 Cup,” said Porsche Motorsport project manager for GT racing cars Jan Feldmann.
“This has allowed us to focus more on feedback from the global one-make cups and develop a racing car that has been refined in many areas compared to the current Cup 911.”
Track testing has so far taken place at Monza, the Lausitzring and Porsche’s test track in Weissach, with former Porsche Juniors Bastian Buus and Klaus Bachler handling the majority of the testing duties.
Porsche-contracted drivers Laurin Heinrich and Marco Seefried have also spent time in the new car.
The test program has so far been exclusively used with an eFuel blend that debuted in Supercup competition this year.
Further technical details on the car have yet to be released.
Porsche anticipates production of the car to begin at its plant in Zuffenhausen this fall ahead of its phased rollout next year across multiple single-make series, with Carrera Cup Asia thought to be among the other series where the car will race in 2026.
The German manufacturer has produced a total of 5,381 one-make race cars based on the 911 since the debut of its first Cup series in 1990.
