Blake McDonald led the way in the opening GT America powered by AWS practice session at Virginia International Raceway, which saw limited participation due to wet track conditions.
McDonald, in the No. 11 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, reeled off a best lap of 2:03.742 in the delayed session, due to two separate track stoppages for thunderstorms and heavy rain in the area.
he was 1.761 seconds quicker than the No. 56 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of Memo Gidley.
Ross Chouest, in the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Corvette, was the third and only other competitor to venture out onto the wet 3.27-mile circuit during the reduced 25-minute session.
Gidley, meanwhile, also paced the Paid Bronze Test, which ran immediately prior to GTA Practice 1.
Practice 2 for GT America competitors is scheduled for Friday 9:10 a.m. EST.
