Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti will join Team Parker Racing for next month’s Michelin 24H Dubai, in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo with an art car livery designed by Stefan Johansson.
Franchitti, who won the Rolex 24 at Daytona with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2008, will pilot the No. 31 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo alongside team regular Rob Huff as well as Shaun and Max Lynn, the father and brother of Cadillac Hypercar star Alex Lynn.
The Scottish racer is best known for his exploits in IndyCar racing, where he captured four drivers’ championship and won the Indy 500 on four separate occasions before his career was cut short by a crash in 2013.
Prior to that, he made sporadic endurance racing appearances, most notably contesting the Rolex 24 nine times and also racing in the American Le Mans Series for the likes of Andretti Green Racing and Highcroft Racing.
In recent years, Franchitti has competed in historic racing events, most notably at the likes of the Goodwood Revival.
His appearance in the Parker-run Mercedes-AMG will be something of a reunion for Franchitti, as he drove for the Stuttgart manufacturer in DTM early in his career prior to making his move to the U.S.
Huff and the Lynn father-and-son duo raced with Team Parker in Dubai last year, when it ran a Bentley Continental GT3.
The Stuart Parker-led squad has now switched to Mercedes-AMG machinery, which notably features an art car livery designed by 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Stefan Johansson.
