Carrera Cup Set for Triple-Header at Road America

Porsche Carrera Cup North America is set for its first, and likely only, triple-header of the season this weekend at Road America, as the single-make series completes a make-up race from earlier in the season at Miami.

The three 40-minute contests will be in support of the first-ever six-hour IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at the four-mile circuit.

The two regularly scheduled races, Rounds 9 and 10, will take place on Friday, with Saturday set to feature the Round 6 that was originally due to be contested at Miami International Autodrome. The round was postponed due to a scheduling change amid weather on the Formula 1 weekend.

Only the drivers that were slated to run the Miami race will be eligible for the third and final Carrera Cup race of the weekend.

Topp Racing’s Tyler Maxson, who earned his fourth victory of the season last time out at Watkins Glen International, has extended his points lead in the Pro class to 37 points over Kellymoss driver Aaron Jeansonne and Callum Hedge of JDX Racing, who are both tied on 110 points.

Maxson returns to the site of his first career Carrera Cup victory last year.

Patrick Mulcahy is seven-for-seven this year in the Pro-Am class, while ACI Motorsports teammate Marco Cirone enjoys a 27-point lead over Ruckus Racing’s Scott Blind.

A total of 22 Porsche 911 Cup cars are entered for Road America, headlined by a dozen in Pro, two in Pro-Am and eight in Masters.

Of note, Alex Pratt returns to action in the No. 6 ACI Motorsports Porsche in Pro, taking the place of teammate Matt Smith, who claimed a sweep of the Masters class weekend at The Glen but is not entered for Road America.

Track action gets underway on Thursday with a pair of practice sessions and qualifying, followed by Race 1 (10:25 a.m. CST) and Race 2 (2:45 p.m. CST) on Friday. The Miami Make-Up Race 2 is slated for Saturday at 8:50 a.m. CST, with all three races to be streamed on Peacock, as well as Porsche Motorsport North America and IMSA’s YouTube channels.

***Miami’s second race was postponed when weather moved into the area to ensure the Formula 1 race was run to completion. Only those entered at Miami are eligible for the Saturday morning race, and it will use the grid set at Miami. That puts Callum Hedge (JDX) on pole position alongside Janne Stiak (ACI), with Jeansonne and Maxson in Row Two. ***Defending Masters class champ Scott Blind had a tough opening weekend at Sebring International Raceway, but since then has rebounded to get back into contention for this year’s title. He currently trails leader Marco Cirone by 27 points, but has landed on the podium in four of the past five races.

***Porsche Motorsport North America recently published the 2027 schedule. Among the highlights are a first-time visit to Daytona International Speedway on the Rolex 24 at Daytona race weekend. Porsche currently owns 21 wins in the endurance race, including a three-race win streak.

***Members of the Porsche Junior program and the Porsche Mobil 1 Female Driver program gathered last week in Mooresville, N.C. for a visit to the Team Penske headquarters and a hands-on training day at PitFit. Drivers learned more about the success of Team Penske across all of their programs, including Porsche Penske Motorsport, and participated in classroom sessions that covered preparation, partnerships and more.
