Maxson Claims Sixth Pole of Season for Race 1 at Indy

Tyler Maxson claimed his sixth Porsche Carrera Cup North America pole position of the season in a closely fought qualifying session for the first race of the weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Pro class points leader reeled off a 1:24.281 lap time in his No. 77 Topp Racing Porsche 911 Cup in the closing moments of the 30-minute session, denying Aaron Jeansonne his first pole of the season.

Maxson’s time was 0.039 seconds quicker than the Kellymoss driver, who will line up on the outside of the front row.

Janne Stiak will start third in the No. 40 ACI Motorsports entry, with Callum Hedge (JDX Racing) and Cole Kleck (Topp) completing the overall top-five.

The No. 71 Kellymoss Porsche of Paul Boucuse will start sixth, after making a final-lap improvement to bump Jared Thomas to seventh.

Australian Lockie Bloxsom, in his series debut, qualified eighth in his JDX entry.

Marco Cirone took pole in the Masters class, ahead of Scott Blind and Richard Edge, while Pro-Am champion-elect Patrick Mulcahy slotted in behind the trio in 16th overall.

Race 1 takes the green flag on Saturday at 12:35 p.m. EST with live coverage on Peacock as well as Porsche Motorsport North America and IMSA’s YouTube channels.
