Ferrari Receives Biggest Weight Break for VIR

The Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo has received the largest weight break ahead of next weekend’s Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway.

Confirmed in the latest Balance of Performance table released by IMSA, the Ferrari loses 21 kg compared to its configuration at the recent six-hour WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Road America.

The Prancing Horse will now weigh in at 1334 kg, but faces a 3.1 percent reduction in first-stage power levels. At speeds above 200 km/h, the car’s maximum output has only been tweaked by a 0.6 percent reduction.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R is the next biggest winner in the weight department, with the car set to run 11 kgs lighter, along with weight breaks for the Lexus RC F GT3 (-3 kg), and Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo (-1 kg).

Several GT3 models have received minor weight increases, including the BMW M4 GT3 EVO (+5 kg), McLaren 720S GT3 Evo (+4 kg) and Ford Mustang GT3 EVO (+3 kg).

The Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo, which remains at a minimum weight of 1384 kg, continues to be the heaviest GT3 car, compared to the lightest, the Aston Martin at 1291 kg, marking a 93 kg weight swing.

While most cars have had only minor power adjustments, the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, of note, has received a 4.3 percent increase in Stage 1 levels, although faces a reduction of 2.3 percent in Stage 2.

The Porsche also has a similar power cut at speeds under 190 km/h, to the tune of a 4.8 percent reduction.
