Porsche squad Razoon – more than racing will step up to the Pro class for its return to the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup for the first time since the Brands Hatch opener at Zandvoort later this month.
It has revealed that Porsche contracted driver Klaus Bachler will reunite with Simon Birch for the penultimate Sprint Cup round on Sept. 19-20 after they made a one-off GTWC Europe appearance at Misano last year.
The team had planned to contest the full season this year but has only made one Sprint Cup appearance — with Birch and Magnus Gustavsen behind the wheel of its Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo in the Silver Cup — while a revolving cast of drivers have appeared for Razoon in the Endurance Cup’s Bronze division.
“It’s naturally very nice, as an Austrian, to be racing for an Austrian team that has now established itself on the GT3 scene,” said Bachler.
“Given that we’re in the middle of the season and moving up to the Pro class, it’s not exactly straightforward, as the ban on testing meant we couldn’t really prepare properly.
“Nevertheless, we were aware of this and are still preparing as best we can.”
Team owner Dominik Olbert said Razoon is targeting a top-ten result at Zandvoort.
“For us, the outing at Zandvoort is a developmental opportunity to learn as much as possible whilst preparing for planned racing programmes in top-class GT racing series,” he added.
“We’re delighted that Klaus, one of the world’s best Porsche drivers, will be racing for our team — we were already able to learn a great deal from his expertise last year.”
