Flying Lizard Motorsports’ Pirelli World Challenge program will increase beyond its two previously announced McLaren 650S GT3s for 2015, the team announced Friday.
Two new customer programs have been revealed. The Flying Lizard/K-PAX Racing joint effort will make a customer McLaren 650S GT3 available as the third car for the PWC season.
“Both Flying Lizard Motorsports and K-PAX have had such a successful racing history in various levels of the sport, and that’s something we never want to lose sight of,” said Flying Lizard Program Manager Darren Law.
“In the past 10 years of both our team’s history, we’ve built a strong brand that racers and fans connect to. We want to continue to make serious racing efforts available to customers who share our passion for success and speed, and we now have the opportunity to expand our operation on many levels.”
Additionally, a new two-car customer effort has been announced for the Pirelli Porsche GT3 Cup championship, in partnership with Competent Motorsports.
This is a customer-based series that is expected to run both 997-spec and 991-spec Porsche Cup cars, and is separate from the new PWC GT Cup class, and the IMSA Porsche GT3 USA series.
“After looking at several race series, we felt the Pirelli Porsche GT3 Cup had something very unique to offer both teams and drivers,” Law said. “Our history with Porsche goes back to day one of our program, and our fans haven’t let us forget it. We enjoyed great success with Porsche and look forward to running them again.”
The team revives the Porsche relationship after a year’s hiatus. The team switched to the Audi R8 LMS for 2014, and then begins the new relationship with McLaren for this year.
