VIDEO: Level 5’s Tucker Wins P2 Championship

Scott Tucker wins fourth ALMS drivers’ title in down-to-the-wire battle…

Level 5 Motorsports owner/driver Scott Tucker came out on top of the American Le Mans Series P2 drivers’ championship following a down-to-the-wire battle between his No. 551 Level 5 Motorsports HPD ARX-03b of Ryan Briscoe and the David Brabham-driven No. 01 Extreme Speed Motorsports HPD for the class win in Saturday’s series-ending Petit Le Mans.

A quicker final stop for Briscoe saw the Australian jump ahead of countryman Brabham with less than 45 minutes to go and hold off the charge for a hard-earned win for he, Franchitti and Tucker, marking the team’s fourth straight victory in the 1,000-mile/10-hour Road Atlanta enduro.

More importantly, it was enough to give Tucker the title, who becomes the only driver to have won four consecutive ALMS championships. The Level 5 owner claimed the inaugural Prototype Challenge championship in 2010 before going on to win three straight tiles in the P2 class.

“This year was a long road,” Tucker said. “We had a pretty good plan going in. The Level 5 guys did a great job. My co-drivers this year, Ryan and Marino, these are the best guys I’ve had with me. I’m really proud to have them.

“The ESM guys were good, strong competitors this year and we were fortunate to be able to race against them. Overall, I’m just really happy for the result we achieved. We put the work in for it so I feel like we deserve it.”
