Eurasia Breaks Through for 3H Thailand Victory

Eurasia Motorsport broke through to claim its first victory in the 2015/2016 Asian Le Mans Series season, with a come-from-behind run by series debutants Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael in Sunday’s Three Hours of Thailand.

The pole-sitting KFC-sponsored No. 9 Oreca 03R Nissan edged out the No. 25 Algarve Pro Racing Ligier JS P2 Nissan by 30 seconds, despite an early race puncture that relegated the Indonesian-Italian pairing down the running order.

Championship leaders Race Performance came home a close third, although the result was not enough to clinch the LMP2 title heading into the final round of the season in Sepang later this month.

A fifth place overall finish for the No. 1 DC Racing Ligier JS P3, however, was enough for David Cheng and Ho-Pin Tung to take their third consecutive LMP3 class win and lock up the championship.

Cheng, Tung and Thomas Laurent took a four-lap victory over the No. 89 Team AAI ADESS 03, the only other P3 car that started following an accident for the sister entry on Saturday.

In GT, Nexus Infinity claimed its first GT class victory with Josh Hunt and Dominic Ang taking the team’s No. 27 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 to a narrow 7 second victory over the debuting Audi R8 LMS from Absoulte Racing.

Remarkably, the top-three in class finished within 10 seconds, with the final podium position going to the No. 91 Team AAI BMW Z4 GT3.

GT pole-sitters and championship leaders Clearwater Racing finished fifth, meaning the class championship will also go down to the wire in Malaysia in two weeks’ time.

KCMG, meanwhile, locked up another class win in GT-Am, with both of the CN class Wolf GB08s failing to finish.
