Following its breakthrough first victory at Road America earlier this month, SRT Motorsports’ pair of Viper GTS-Rs have been hit with a mandated weight increase heading into next weekend’s Grand Prix of Baltimore.
IMSA issued the latest Balance of Performance adjustment late this week, calling for the V10-powered beasts to carry 25 kgs of additional weight. The change now puts the GTE-spec machines up to 1280 kgs, the heaviest of any GT-class car competing in the American Le Mans Series.
How the change will affect the car, particularly on the streets of Baltimore, is unknown at this point. In addition to their win, SRT driver Jonathan Bomarito is riding on a pair of consecutive pole positions in class.
Practice for the seventh round of the ALMS gets underway on Friday.
