Audi’s chances of victory in the FIA WEC Six Hours of Circuit of The Americas has taken a significant blow, following an ill-timed Full Course Yellow and subsequent accident by the No. 7 car.
The No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid has taken over the lead, after pitting from the lead while under the race’s third Full Course Yellow in the fourth hour in the hands of Timo Bernhard.
While having opened up a 20-second gap to the No. 7 Audi R18, Benoit Treluyer soon crashed the car, after contact with the No. 66 Ford GT of Olivier Pla in Turn 18.
The incident brought out another FCY and has given a clear advantage to Porsche with 90 minutes to go.
Mark Webber now holds a 15-second lead over the No. 6 Toyota TS050 Hybrid of Kamui Kobayashi, with Lucas Di Grassi in third in the No. 8 Audi, which lost 45 seconds in the fourth hour after the car encountered electrical issues.
Signatech Alpine continues to lead LMP2, with Aston Martin Racing out front in GTE-Pro and GTE-Am.
