Scuderia Villorba Corse will make the step up to the LMP2 class in the European Le Mans Series next year with Dallara, the team confirmed on Tuesday.

The Italian squad, run by Raimondo Amadio, currently campaigns a Ligier JS P3 in the European championship, and with the move to LMP2, has targeted participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well.

“Entering LMP2 is an historical moment for our team,” Amadio said. “We have chased and admired this project for years, It totally confirms Villorba Corse international and professional reputation.

“Preparing for this will require an enormous effort. We are proud to work side by side with Dallara and we will make sure that future programs will be perfectly up to the names involved.

“[The] next target will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It is a dream coming true for all of us.”

Roberto Lacorte will continue with the team for a second season, with the two other drivers for its LMP2 effort to be announced at a later date.

Villorba Corse becomes the first team to officially commit to the new Dallara LMP2, which will serve as the chassis for the yet-to-be-announced Cadillac DPi effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
