Strakka Racing’s lineup for February’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour will see the team benefit from local experience of the Mount Panorama circuit after signing Virgin Australia Supercars front-runner Cameron Waters.
Waters, a winner in the Australian touring car category, will partner Strakka regulars Nick Leventis, Lewis Williamson and David Fumanelli in one of two Mercedes-AMG GT3s for the Feb. 2-4 event.
The second lineup will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
“I’m really excited about doing the 2018 Bathurst 12hr with Strakka Racing,” said Waters. “It is a top-level team and I think we have a genuine shot at winning it.
“It’s also a race that I have always wanted to do and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity.”
Strakka Racing Director Jay Davenport added: “It’s great to have Cameron with us for our Mercedes-AMG debut.
“Cameron recently secured his first Supercars victory and he is keen to share his knowledge of The Mountain, a track that’s new to Strakka.
“We know having Nick, Lewis and David in the same car worked well last season. Together with Cameron, this entry has a strong and competitive line up.”
To date Strakka has run the first of its Mercedes-AMG GT3 chassis at Barcelona and Silverstone, getting the chance to complete more than 130 laps in both wet and dry conditions.
“The car has been perfect, it ran straight out of the box and both Lewis and Nick who have tested the car have both said it feels responsive and well-balanced,” said Davenport.
“Bathurst is a competitive event and it has its own rules and regulations, so we aren’t expecting it to be easy but that said, with the quality we have in the driver lineups and with known reliability of the Mercedes-AMG cars, we are sure we have a chance to fight at the front.”
The team announced last month a switch to the German manufacturer, which will see it take on the full Intercontinental GT Challenge season and Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.
