Kenny Wilden led the way in the opening day of track activity for this weekend’s Michelin Pilot Challenge round at Mid-Ohio.

The veteran racer took his No. 59 KohR Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4 to a best lap of 1:33.432 in Friday afternoon’s practice session to go quickest of the day.

Wilden led a Mustang GT4 1-2, with Jade Buford slotting in second quickest in the No. 40 PF Racing entry, ahead of the Sebring-winning No. 39 Carbahn Motorsports Audi R8 LMS GT4 of Jeff Westphal.

All of the quick times of the day were set in the afternoon practice, which ran on a dry track compared to the rain-soaked morning session, which saw only 26 cars take to the track.

The afternoon session, however, was marred by three red flags.

LA Honda World Racing continued its hot streak in TCR, with Shelby Blackstock quickest in the No. 37 Honda Civic Type-R TCR.

Blackstock’s 1:36.682 lap time put him 11th quickest overall and less than 3.5 seconds from Wilden’s GS class pace-setting time.

Pilot Challenge competitors have one final practice session on Saturday morning, followed immediately by qualifying for the two-hour race, which gets underway at 1:45 p.m. EDT.

RESULTS: Practice 1 and 2 (Combined)
