Dane Cameron ended Friday on the top of the time sheets at Watkins Glen, in the opening day of track action for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The Acura Team Penske driver unofficially shattered the qualifying track record by more than two seconds, laying down a 1:30.014 in his No. 6 Acura ARX-05.

Cameron’s time was 0.828 seconds quicker than the No. 55 Team Joest Mazda RT24-P of Jonathan Bomarito, who made a late improvement to second.

Helio Castroneves was third quickest in the No. 7 Acura DPi, followed by the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R of Renger van der Zande in fourth. 

The No. 54 CORE autosport Nissan DPi of Colin Braun completed the top-five in the rater uneventful session that saw only a brief red flag.

It was again for the No. 84 JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac DPi, which encountered electrical issues.

Westbrook Remains Out Front in GTLM

Richard Westbrook improved on his GT Le Mans pace-setting time in the morning session to go even faster in class in his No. 67 Ford GT.

The Englishman’s 1:42.321 lap time was 0.238 seconds quicker than the No. 3 Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, which returned to action following an engine change.

GT Daytona was led by the No. 44 Magnus Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo of Spencer Pumpelly, who edged out the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Scott Hargrove by 0.116 seconds.

Jack Hawksworth was third quickest for AIM Vasser Sullivan.

Matt McMurry, meanwhile, led the way in LMP2 in his No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 Gibson.

A final practice session is on tap for Saturday morning, followed by qualifying.
