Andrew Davis says he’s seen an uptick in performance from Rebel Rock Racing in his last-minute return to the team for this weekend’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge round at Lime Rock Park.

Davis has been called up to fill in for team owner/driver Frank DePew in the No. 71 Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R, which won last time out at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with DePew and Robin Liddell at the wheel.

The GT veteran has been part of the team’s lineup in the four-hour endurance races this year, most recently having been in the car at Watkins Glen last month.

“I got the late call-up from Rebel Rock to rejoin the team, and it’s nice to get an extra race in from what I was planning this year,” Davis said. “I’m thankful that Frank wanted me to fill in for him.

“I’m kind of their reserve driver and that means a bunch to me.

“It’s exciting for me to come back each time and see the progress the team has made, the guys are doing a great job: not just on the car and the development there, but in how well everyone works together as a team.

“Things are cleaner, meaner and faster and that’s what you’re after. It’s a great organization.”

Davis said it hasn’t been a challenge in acclimating to the Pratt & Miller-built GT4 contender, despite having limited mileage, and is optimistic on their chances of back-to-back GS wins this weekend.

“I’m pretty comfortable with the GT4.R now and the Michelin tire was a nice change of pace,” he said. “As soon as I got into the car at Daytona, I knew it was something I would like.

“As a driver, you adapt to those things quickly.

“We’re working through the test plan and trying to do some long runs on older tires and heavier fuel to simulate the race.

“It’s going to be hot here at Lime Rock Park and it’s such a battle here. The competition is very close, and now the TCR cars are quick as well. We have a big field and it will be nose to tail the entire time. We have to be prepared for that and ready to go.”
