German Rally Team Joins GT Masters With Engel, Stolz

German rally team Toksport WRT will make its ADAC GT Masters debut this weekend, fielding a Mercedes-AMG GT3 for factory drivers Maro Engel and Luca Stolz.

Based in Quiddelbach, near the Nürburgring, Toksport WRT will compete in this weekend’s GT Masters races at Zandvoort and the Nürburgring rounds a week later as an exploratory program ahead of a possible full-season entry next year.

The team has made a couple of starts in 24H Series competition so far this year, and also runs in Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, but the majority of its experience comes from rallying, where it fields Skoda Fabia R5s.

It took Kalle Rovanpera to the WRC2 Pro win in Chile earlier this year, while another of its drivers, Chris Ingram, is third in the European Rally Championship standings.

Its factory pairing of Engel and Stolz are regular teammates in the Blancpain GT Series and have proven themselves a formidable pairing in sprint races by leading the GT World Challenge Europe standings.

“It’s a great prospect to be contesting two race weekends in the ADAC GT Masters,” said Stolz.

“We have two good drivers who have a lot of experience of the Mercedes-AMG and are therefore able to help the team. I’ve known Toksport WRT for some time, and they are a professional outfit.”

Added team principal Emre Buyukbayrak: “The ADAC GT Masters is one of the world’s toughest GT championships.

“For us as a German team, it therefore makes a lot of sense to be part of the lineup. We know how competitive this series is.

“We aim to gain as much experience as possible, because we plan to field two cars throughout the whole of the 2020 season.

“In Luca and Maro, we have a strong driver pairing and therefore hope to be in contention for top positions.”
